WLax Minute - Midweek Wins Keep League On The Right Track

Updated BIG EAST Release in PDF

A trio of midweek wins has kept the BIG EAST humming along and improved the league's nonconference record  to a robust 49-16 (.754 winning percentage). It is the highest mark in conference history (the league added women's lacrosse in 2001). In addition, six different programs (Connecticut, Georgetown, Louisville, Loyola, Notre Dame and Syracuse) have accounted for wins over ranked teams this season.

On Wednesday afternoon, No. 5/6 Syracuse (5-2) won at Boston College 17-12. The Orange scored four goals in the first five minutes of the game and won their third in a row. On Sunday, Syracuse takes on defending national champions Northwestern. It is a rematch of last year's NCAA title game and will begin at 2 p.m. ET in Evanston, Ill.

Elsewhere, No. 17/17 Loyola (5-5) won at UMBC 13-7 for its third win in a row. The Greyhounds had three players score three goals apiece.

On Tuesday, Connecticut (7-1) beat Oregon 16-14 in overtime. Freshman mid Carly Palmucci lifted the Huskies with a team-high five points coming on four goals and an assist, including the overtime game-winning goal.
