PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The 2013 BIG EAST women's lacrosse championship field has been set, with four teams locked into the tournament, Connecticut, Georgetown, Loyola and Syracuse. The seeds are still to be determined and will be finalized following Sunday afternoon's action which concludes the regular-season.
Connecticut (13-2, 5-2 BIG EAST) will make its first appearance in the seven-year history of the championship and is in the midst of its best season ever. UConn went 7-0 at home this year and wraps up the regular season in Baltimore against the Greyhounds.
Loyola (9-7, 5-2 BIG EAST) has won four of its last five games and will make its fourth straight appearance in the tournament. Loyola has won the last two BIG EAST Championship tournament titles.
Georgetown (12-3, 6-1 BIG EAST) had a decisive win over UConn on Friday which locked it in the tournament field. The Hoyas beat UConn 9-6 at home. Georgetown will host the BIG EAST Championship on May 2 & 4.
Syracuse (13-3, 7-0 BIG EAST) won at Loyola on Friday night 19-9 and has won eight games in a row. The Orange also extended their BIG EAST regular-season winning streak to 19 games, dating back to the 2011 season. Syracuse is looking for its first tournament title since 2008.
