PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Syracuse (18-3) women's lacrosse team will take on Florida (19-2) on Friday, May 25 at 5:30 p.m. ET in the semifinals of the NCAA Championship held in Stony Brook, N.Y. The game can be seen on ESPN3.com.
The No. 4 seed Orange will face No. 1 seed Florida for the second time this season. Syracuse won at Florida 12-11 (2ot) on March 3. Both teams rank in the among the NCAA defensive leaders. Syracuse allows just 8.9 goals per game to rank 10th nationally, while Florida allows just 6.2 goals per game and leads the country.
Syracuse advanced to the semifinals following a 15-5 win over Dartmouth in the first round and a 17-16 win over North Carolina in the quarterfinals. Syracuse earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Championship, its 10th appearance overall.
The Orange won the BIG EAST regular-season title with an 8-0 league record and advanced to the title game of the BIG EAST Championship. Syracuse is 8-9 all-time in the NCAA Championship and making its fifth straight appearance. The Orange have advanced to the Final Four three times in the past five years (2008, 2010 and 2012). Syracuse has yet to appear in the NCAAA title game.
In its 12 years of existence, the BIG EAST has seen seven teams advance to the semifinals of the NCAA Championship. The last time a BIG EAST team played for the women's lacrosse national title was in 2002 (Georgetown).
