Women's Soccer Defeats Purdue 2-1 In Overtime

West Lafayette, Ind. - The Louisville women's soccer team defeated Purdue 2-1 in overtime of exhibition play on Saturday afternoon at the Boilermaker Soccer Complex. The Cardinals finish exhibition play with two wins before kicking off the regular season on Friday, Aug. 24.

Purdue capitalized on a corner kick opportunity in the third minute to give Purdue women's soccer an early 1-0 lead. The Cardinals scored the equalizer with 27 seconds remaining in the first half, finding the Boilermaker keeper at the top of the box and slipping it behind her for the goal. The shot found itself inside the left post to even the score.

The Boilermakers enjoyed an advantage in possession and had more quality scoring chances throughout the first half. Action was more back and forth in the second half, with Louisville creating more opportunities.

Both teams were unable to capitalize in the second half, forcing overtime period. Louisville scored the game-winner in the 94th minute. Louisville scored on a point blank shot inside the box.

Louisville will open up the season on Friday, Aug. 24 as they host Butler in Cardinal Park at 7:00 p.m.
