MILWAUKEE—Freshman Morgan Proffitt scored her first collegiate goal as the No. 22 Marquette University women’s soccer team (5-2) defeated the Colgate Raiders, 1-0, Friday night at Valley Fields.
Senior Maegan Kelly approached history in the game as notched her 33rd career assist, which ties the program record, in the seventh minute when she found Proffitt off of a corner kick to put Marquette ahead, 1-0. The record was held by Regina Sekyra who played at Marquette 1994-97.
MU’s seventh minute goal held throughout the remainder of the game, despite 13 shots from the Golden Eagles in the second half. Marquette outshot Colgate 21 to six on the evening, including eight shots on goal.
The defense was stellar, allowing just three shots on goal in the contest as sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Engel recorded her second clean sheet of the season, picking up three saves on the night. The Raider’s goalkeeper Brenna Mason recorded seven saves.
The Golden Eagles will travel to Illinois State on Sunday, Sept. 15 for a 1 p.m. kick-off. After Sunday’s action, MU returns home Saturday, Sept. 21 to take on former conference foe Louisville at 6 p.m. at Valley Fields.
