LOUISVILLE, KY. -- Senior forward Christine Exeter scored the game-winner in the 92nd minute to lift Louisville to a 3-2 win over Memphis on Friday night in Cardinal Park. The Cardinals improve to 5-3-1 on the year and 1-0-0 in American Athletic Conference play while Memphis falls to 7-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league play.

Memphis grabbed the early lead in the 30th minute as Nugene Nugent headed in a corner kick for a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals responded quickly, just 35 seconds later Louisville earned a corner and Erin Yenney won a scramble in the box putting a shot on frame, but a Memphis defender headed the ball out of the goal line for a team save. Moments later, Louisville earned another corner and this time Yenney scored the equalizer.

After testing Memphis twice and coming away empty early in the second half, junior Casey Whitfield gave Louisville the 2-1 advantage. Whitfield took a cross from Shannon Dennehey and sent the ball in net as the Memphis keeper left her line to chase down the ball.

Memphis answered in the 70th minute as Kaitlyn Atkins served a cross into the six-yard box where Valerie Sanderson put away the header to tie the game at 2-2. Both teams tried to score the game winner in the final minutes but neither team could finish, sending the game into overtime.

Exeter was fed a cross from Whitfield down the middle of the field and put away the goal from 18 yards away to give the Cardinals the victory in the 92nd minute. Louisville finished the match with a 17-13 edge in shots and a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal. Cardinal keeper Paige Brown finished with four stops while Lady Tigers goalkeeper Maryse Bard-Martel came up with eight stops.

Louisville will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 29 as they host Rutgers in Cardinal Park at 1:00 p.m.
