The Providence College women's soccer team lost to Creighton, 3-2, in a BIG EAST matchup on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013 at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. Providence moves to 4-5-3 (1-2-0 BIG EAST) and Creighton improves to 8-3-1 (1-1-1 BIG EAST).
In the first half, Friars junior Allison Walton (Brunswick, Maine) put PC up 1-0 with her unassisted goal in the 29th minute. She scored by dribbling through the Creighton defense, beating the keeper to the lower left, for her third goal of the season.
The Bluejays evened things at 1-1 in the 34th minute when Lauren Sullivan's header connected off of a pass from Jill Richgels.
The second half saw Creighton's Angela Benson put the Bluejays on top (2-1) when she scored off of a corner kick taken by Jill Richgels in the 50th minute. Kirstyn Corder scored the Bluejays' third and deciding goal when she knocked in a rebound close range. Darby Hugunin had the assist on the play.
Providence made it interesting when sophomores Lauren Elia (Erie, Pa.) and Catherine Zimmerman (Madison, N.J.) teamed up to pull within one (3-2) in the 72nd minute. Zimmerman won a ball at the top of the box and slipped it to Elia, who fired past the goalkeeper to the lower right corner, for her second goal of the year. Providence was unable to score the rest of the half to tie the game.
Junior keeper Jessica Goudreault (Sherborn, Mass.) earned her third consecutive start of the season. She played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded three saves.
Providence returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 6 when the Friars host Georgetown. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. and will be played on the campus of Providence College in Providence, R.I.
