Louisville scored three goals in the first half to defeat Temple 3-1 on Thursday afternoon in Philadelphia. The Cardinals improved to 6-1-0 in American Athletic Conference play and 10-4-1 overall. Temple falls to 6-8-1 overall and 1-5-0 in league play.
The Cardinals took an early lead in the fourth minute when senior Charlyn Corral crossed the ball inside the box to fellow senior Erin Yenney. Yenney sent a left footed shot into the top left corner of the net for a 1-0 Louisville lead.
Nine minutes later Casey Whitfield sent a ball inside to Shannon Dennehey. Dennehey headed the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. In the 42nd minute, Katie Walz crosses the ball into Nicole Gerber who sends the shot to the back of the net for a 3-0 lead.
The Cardinals continued to dominate play in the second half. Temple freshman Elaine Byerley scored the lone goal for the Owls in the 50th minute.
Louisville finished with a 26-6 shot advantage, including an 11-1 shot on goal advantage. Temple finished with eight saves while Cardinal keeper Paige Brown was not tested.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 20 at UConn.
