Izzo-Brown To Assist With U.S. National Team West Virginia women's soccer head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown has been named an assistant coach with the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (June 3, 2011) - West Virginia women's soccer head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown has been named an assistant coach with the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team. She will assist head coach April Heinrichs at a training camp running June 4-12 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
"I am looking forward to a great week of soccer to see where the team is at and how I can help in its development," says Izzo-Brown, set to begin her 16th season at WVU this fall. "My goal is to help April build on where the team is at and help further the skill set of the team."
The team will face its counterpart from Japan twice during the week-long camp that also consists of training sessions, meetings, study halls, meals and more. Team USA will face Japan in matches on June 8 and 11.
Izzo-Brown also spent time after the 2007 season as an assistant with the U-20 Women's National Team. She teamed with then-UCLA head coach Jill Ellis to identify candidates to represent the United States at the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
"This camp will be a little bit different in that we have international play during the camp," says Izzo-Brown. "The high level of play and expectations are similar though. I am looking forward to the opportunity of working with April and her staff."
To date, Izzo-Brown has led the Mountaineers to an impressive 207-82-32 overall record and an 82-39-17 BIG EAST mark that includes four regular season divisional titles and two tournament championships.
