Pitt Women's Soccer Begins Preseason Drills

Aug. 6, 2013

PITTSBURGH— Second-year head coach Greg Miller and his 23-member Pitt women’s soccer squad began NCAA mandated practices on Wednesday at Ambrose Urbanic Field at the Petersen Sports Complex. The 2013 Panthers are gearing up for their inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Pitt begins its competition schedule with an exhibition game at Kentucky on Friday, August 16.

“One of our biggest challenges for us this preseason is to try to mesh together 11 returning players with the 12 freshmen,” Miller said. “We had a head start by bringing them in for the second summer session, but trying to mesh them into a culture that is still evolving is one of our key challenges.”

Pitt opens its regular season at Duquesne on Sunday, Aug. 25 and opens its home schedule against Bucknell on Friday, Aug. 30. Pitt’s first Atlantic Coast Conference game will be against Boston College on Thursday, Sept. 12. Pitt’s 2013 women’s soccer schedule also includes nine home games at Ambrose Urbanic Field and 11 matches which will be played in the Pittsburgh area.

Pitt returns nine starters and 11 letterwinners from a 7-10-2 team. In addition, Pitt adds a 12-member recruiting class.
