KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Six BIG EAST soccer players were named to the 2014 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List on Wednesday, including four men’s players and two women’s. Georgetown led all conference schools with three selections, including three-time Watch List member and 2012 Semifinalist Daphne Corboz.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in NCAA soccer presented annually to one male and one female athlete. The winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at the trophy presentation banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

The 2014 Watch Lists were announced earlier today on on the “2014 NSCAA College Soccer Review Show,” which also revealed the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire Preseason College Rankings for NCAA Division I men’s and women’s teams.

The lists are compiled by the NSCAA Men’s and Women’s NCAA Division I All-America Committees, based on their analysis of returning All-America and All-Region players, as well as any prominent newcomers.

Corboz, the 2013 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year, was joined on the Women’s Watch List by St. John’s standout and reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year Rachel Daly. Corboz ranked fourth nationally in assists per game (0.75) last season and led the Hoyas in points (27). Daly was the national leader in total goals scored (23), setting the Red Storm single-season record. Both Corboz and Daly garnered NSCAA All-America Second-Team honors in 2013.

On the men’s Hermann Trophy Watch List was Georgetown junior forward Brandon Allen, Hoya sophomore defender Joshua Yaro, Marquette junior forward C. Nortey and a senior defender from St. John’s, Tim Parker.

Allen was a Second Team All-American and BIG EAST First Team honoree. He ranked fourth in the league in points with 11 in nine conference games on five goals and one assist. Yaro was a Second Team NSCAA All-Region honoree as a freshman, despite missing four games due to a broken arm. He was also a member of the BIG EAST All-Rookie squad. Nortey led Marquette with 10 goals and 22 points last season and was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Both a first team NSCAA All-Northeast Region selection and a first team All-BIG EAST honoree as a junior, Parker led a defense that posted nine shutouts and allowed just 4.3 shots on goal per game.

Georgetown and St. John’s were two of eight teams to have players on both the men’s and women’s Watch Lists, while the Hoyas were one of just four men’s teams to have multiple players recognized.

Nine out of 10 BIG EAST women’s soccer teams will kick off the season on Aug. 22, while all 10 league schools will embark on their 2014 men’s soccer seasons on Aug. 29.
