MILWAUKEE - Marquette University senior women's soccer players Maegen Kelly and Emily Jacobson have been named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Preseason Top 100 list. The duo rounded out the top 50 spots, with Kelly earning a No. 20 spot and Jacobson at No. 45.
The pair, along with fellow senior Taylor Madigan, tabbed BIG EAST accolades this week as well, being named to the preseason All-BIG EAST team. The midfielder and forward were also invited this past spring to play at the U-23 Women's National Team camp in Carson, Calif.
Kelly has racked up her share of preseason honors already this season, including a spot on TopDrawerSoccer.com's Preseason Best XI second team. Her effort on the field last season helped her earn multiple BIG EAST acknowledgments including being named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and BIG EAST All-Tournament Team.
Jacobson was also a force on and off the field last season for the Golden Eagles, earning All-BIG EAST Third Team honors and more recently being named to the 2012-13 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
The BIG EAST announced this week that the MU women's soccer squad is the favorite to win the regular season title this fall, an act familiar to this very successful team. The Golden Eagles earned seven of 10 first place votes to round out the top spot, with Georgetown coming in second with three first place votes.
MU will open play for 2013 on the road at Portland on Aug. 23 but before the season begins, the team will host its annual Fan Fest at Valley Fields on Friday, August 16 at 4:30 p.m.
