The Georgetown University women's soccer team is ranked among the top-25 teams in the country in a pair of preseason polls released on Tuesday.
The Hoyas are No. 18 in the country in the preseason poll released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The Hoyas are one of two BIG EAST teams ranked among the NSCAA top-25, joined by Marquette. The preseason poll is the first of 17 rankings throughout the season by the NSCAA.
Georgetown is also ranked No. 16 in the country by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Head Coach Dave Nolan's team was picked to finish in second place in the BIG EAST preseason poll, released last week. The Blue & Gray swept the individual preseason awards, with junior forward Daphne Corboz (Green Brook, N.J./Watchung Hills) tabbed the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, senior Emily Menges (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) selected as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and sophomore goalkeeper Emma Newins (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) named the Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year.
The Hoyas enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in program history in 2012, setting a school record with 16 wins. The Blue & Gray finished with a 16-4-3 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Along the way, the team posted an 8-1-1 record in the BIG EAST Conference and won the BIG EAST National Division title.
Georgetown hosts the first of two preseason exhibitions on Wednesday, Aug. 14, hosting Richmond at 5 p.m. The team's second exhibition will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 4 p.m., hosting West Virginia at Shaw Field.
The Hoyas open the 2013 regular season on Saturday, Aug. 23, hosting William & Mary. Kickoff at Shaw Field is slated for 4 p.m. The team opens with a pair of games that weekend, capped off by hosting Quinnipiac on Monday, Aug. 25 (1 p.m.).
