Week 2 Women's Soccer Weekly Awards Announced

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Three freshmen and four different teams were represented as the BIG EAST women's soccer weekly awards were announced on Monday. Rutgers redshirt-junior Jonelle Filigno earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Seton Hall freshman D'Yonna Riley was tabbed the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. Notre Dame freshman Elyse Hight was the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, and Pittsburgh freshman Roose Arvas was the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week.


Filigno earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second week in a row. She scored a pair of goals, including a gamewinner, in a 2-0 week. The redshirt-junior had two scores in a 2-1 win over Bucknell on Aug. 24. Filigno also helped the team in a 1-0 win over Siena on Aug. 26. The Scarlet Knights are 4-0-0 for the first time since 2007.


Riley was tabbed BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week following a 2-0 showing. She helped anchor a defense that did not allow a shot on goal in the two wins. The Hall topped Iona 1-0 on Aug. 20 and blanked Lehigh 2-0 on Aug. 24. Riley also notched an assist against Lehigh.

Hight earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honors after totaling eight saves in a 2-0-0 week for the Irish, including one shutout. The rookie played 164 minutes in two matches last week and did not allow a goal. She made five saves in a 2-0 win at Tulsa on Aug. 24. Hight also had three saves in 74 minutes in a 5-0 win over East Carolina on Aug. 26.


Arvas was cited as the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week after amassing seven points in a 3-0-0 week. She had a hand in six of the team's seven goals last week. In a 2-1 win over Robert Morris on Aug. 22, she had an assist. In a 2-1 win at St. Bonaventure on Aug. 24, Arvas recorded two assists. In a 3-1 victory over Duquesne on Aug. 26, the rookie had two assists and the game-winning goal.



Kaitlin Brenn, Georgetown, Jr., F

Had four points, including two goals in a 2-0-0 week.

Katie Greer, Cincinnati, Jr., M

Scored the gamewinner in a 2-1 overtime win against Northeastern on Aug. 26.

Rebekah Roller, DePaul, Jr., M

As a holding midfielder, she played a crucial role in helping DPU secure two shutouts last week, a 3-0 win over Ohio on Aug. 24 and a 1-0 win over Valparaiso on Aug. 26. Roller also had two assists.

Elizabeth Tucker, Notre Dame, Jr., M

Scored both goals in a 2-0 win at Tulsa on Aug. 24; the first ND player in eight years with team's first two goals of year.

Angelika Uremovich, Louisville, Jr., M

Had two goals in a 4-3 double-overtime win over Purdue on Aug. 24.



The league had another solid weekend posting a combined 17-6-2 mark and raising the league's overall nonconference record to 35-12-4 for a .725 winning percentage. Five teams have won every contest this year (Marquette, Georgetown, Rutgers, Seton Hall and Louisville), while Cincinnati (2-0-1) also is unbeaten.
