QUEENS, N.Y. -
The honors keep rolling in for sophomore forward Rachel Daly, who was announced as the BigAppleSoccer.com Women's College Player of the Week on Tuesday. The accolade comes one day after Daly was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week.
Daly recorded eight points during the opening weekend of play, with her first-career hat trick against Fordham on Sunday, and two assists on both goals in a 2-1 victory over Delaware on Friday.
Her BIG EAST honor was the first Offensive Player of the Week award for St. John's since Krystle Jalalian on Sept. 3, 2007.
Daly, a sophomore forward from Harrogate, England scored all three goals of her hat trick in the first 21 minutes of play against the Rams, helping St. John's a 5-0 victory. Her hat trick was the first by a St. John's player since Dominica Reina, on Sept. 3, 2002, also against Fordham. Daly currently leads the BIG EAST in points (8), points per game (4.0) and is tied for first in goals (3) and goals per game (1.50).
In addition to Daly, St. John's also earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, as local-standout Diana Poulin claimed the first weekly honor of the season.
St. John's next game will be on the road. The Red Storm travels to University of Massachusetts on Thursday, Aug. 29 for a 4 p.m. match against the Minutewomen.
