PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Four different schools have been represented in Week 2 of the BIG EAST women's soccer weekly awards. USF senior Noelle Pineiro was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while Marquette junior Ally Miller earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Cincinnati freshman Kristina Utley earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honors, while Georgetown freshman Daphne Corboz was tabbed BIG EAST Rookie of the Week.
Pineiro earns BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors following a five-point outburst against Alabama A&M on Aug. 28. In a 9-0 win, the senior had three assists and scored a goal. Pineiro accomplished the feat in just 28 minutes.
Miller earns BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors after earning the MKE Cup tournament MVP. In a 2-0-0 week for the Golden Eagles, she led the defense posting a shutout against Saint Louis on Aug. 26. She helped limit their opponents to just seven total shots and only three shots on goal.
Utley was tabbed BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week after she totaled 11 saves in a 1-0-1 week for the Bearcats. In a 2-1 win over Northwestern on Aug. 26, Utley made seven saves. In a 0-0 draw against Loyola on Aug. 28, the freshman had four saves and earned a shutout.
Corboz tallied four points to earn BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors. In a 4-1 win over Towson on Aug. 26, the freshman scored two goals, including the eventual gamewinner. She played 85 minutes in the contest.
Patrice Casimir, St. John's, Jr., D
Helped limit opponents to just one goal in 200 minutes; had an assist in a 2-1 win over George Mason. Limited Fordham to just one shot on goal in a 0-0 draw.
Jessica Dulski, Connecticut, Sr., GK
Made three saves to earn a shutout in a 3-0 win over Colgate.
Jennifer Pettigrew, Seton Hall, Jr., GK
Had a shutout in a 1-0 win over Monmouth making three saves.
Rachael Sloan, Marquette, Sr., F
Totaled four points in a 2-0 week; had three points, a goal and an assist, in a 5-0 win over Saint Louis.
Ingrid Wells, Georgetown, R-Sr., F
Scored two goals in a win over Towson.
TOP TILTS RESCHEDULED - Due to Hurricane Irene making its way up the East Coast, numerous BIG EAST women's soccer matches were cancelled or postponed. Two of the contests were pushed to early this week: No. 20/14 Georgetown hosts No. 2/1 Stanford on Aug. 29 and St. John's heads to No. 6/15 Virginia on Aug. 30. Two additional teams also are in action on Aug. 29 (Rutgers and Seton Hall), while Syracuse and UConn have yet to announce makeup dates for their rainouts.
