The Providence College women's soccer team is set to travel to Durham, N.H. on Friday, Aug. 29, for a night cap versus the University of New Hampshire Wildcats. The game is slated for 7:00 p.m. and will be played on Bremner Field. The Friars enter Friday night's game with an overall record of 1-1 including a 1-0 record on the road.
Providence opened its 2013 season on Friday, Aug. 23 at Rhode Island with a 3-0 victory over the Rams. Three different Friars found the back of the net to propel Providence to victory. Sophomore Kathryn Hiller (Dartmouth, Mass.) scored the Friars' first goal of the season in the 62nd minute. Providence increased its lead to 2-0 with a goal from freshman Rachel Ugolik (Hamden, Conn.) and the Friars notched their third and final goal of the game with a finish from senior Amanda Webster (Saugus, Mass.).
The Friars dropped their home opener versus Dayton on Sunday, August 25, 3-0. After a two goal deficit, Providence battled through the second half and forced pressure on Dayton's defense. The Friars generated each of their 13 shots in the final 45 minutes of play.
Freshman goalkeeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) recorded both starts in goal for the Friars. Shea notched her first collegiate win with a 3-0 shutout at Rhode Island where she tallied four saves. In addition, Shea notched eight saves in the Friars loss to Dayton.
Providence and New Hampshire last met on Sept. 9, 2012 in Providence, R.I. where the Friars notched a 2-1 double overtime win over the Wildcats. Then-freshman Catherine Zimmerman (Madison, N.J.) gave the Friars an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the 11th minute. New Hampshire tied the game, 1-1, in the 31st minute and the remainder of regulation was scoreless. Seven minutes into the second overtime period, Providence was awarded a corner kick. Then-senior Laura DiClemente (Blue Bell, Pa.) served the corner that was burried off of a header from teammate, then-sophomore Allie Walton (Brunswick, Maine).
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE: New Hampshire kicked off its 2013 campaign on Friday, Aug. 23 and currently holds a record of 1-1. The Wildcats fell to Colgate 2-0, before defeating Sacred Heart, 1-0, on Sunday, Aug. 25. The Wildcats posted a 5-12-2 record in 2012, finishing fourth in the America East (3-4-1). New Hampshire returns 19 letter winners and welcomes eight newcomers. Among New Hampshire's returners are Meghan Ledwith, Tara Fraprie, Jordan Logue and Gabrielle Sloan. Ledwith tallied eight points last season on three goals and two assists. Fraprie, Logue and Sloan each finished the 2012 campaign with four points.
