PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Gabrielle Charno and Rachel Hill earned their first career American Athletic Conference weekly accolades as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Charno, a junior defender, was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week and Hill, a freshman forward, was named the Rookie of the Week. Additionally, redshirt freshman goalkeeper Emily Armstrong earned a spot on the conference’s honor roll.
Charno anchored the UConn defense in a 2-0 week where the Huskies shut out Boston College, 1-0, and Central Connecticut, 3-0. The Seaford, N.Y. native registered her first career assist at BC and is now fourth on the team with one point.
Hill had a spectacular week where she notched her first collegiate goals netting the gamewinners in both of Connecticut’s victories. The Somersworth, N.H. native is tied for most points on the squad with five points.
Earning a spot on the AAC’s honor roll was UConn’s goalie Armstrong who tallied her first career wins in a 2-0 week. Armstrong totaled eight saves in two shutouts and now sits at 2-2 on the season.
The Huskies are back in action on Friday at 5 p.m. when they host Maine at Morrone Stadium.
