QUEENS, N.Y. -
Officials from the BIG EAST Conference named Preseason All-BIG EAST forward Amy Marron the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after an eight-point single game performance on Sunday.
Along with Marron, sophomore forward Rachel Daly was voted to the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
It is Marron's first-ever Offensive Player of the Week honor and the first time St. John's women's soccer has had back-to-back honorees and two honorees in one season. Daly was Offensive Player of the Week for Aug. 26.
Marron, a Valhalla, N.Y. native, tied St. John's single-game point record on Sunday with eight. The senior forward had her first-career hat trick, all three goals headers, while adding two assists. Marron had a foot on every single goal scored in Sunday's 5-0 victory over North Dakota Sate (Sept. 1).
The single-game point record was set in 1989 by Adriana Viola against Florida International on Sept. 21.
Marron's three goals matched her season-high from 2010 and her five assists are a new season high for the senior.
Daly earned her second BIG EAST honor of the season, as she was voted to the BIG EAST Conference Honor Roll for scoring the game-winning goal against Massachusetts on Thursday and adding two more goals on Sunday against North Dakota State, for her second multi-goal game of the season.
Both Daly and Marron hold the top spots in the BIG EAST Conference offensive statistical categories. Daly leads the BIG EAST in points (14) and points per game (3.5); but Marron is right behind her with 11 points and 2.75 points per game. Marron is also tied for first in assists (5) and assists per game (1.25). Daly leads the league in goals (1.5) and is tied for first in goals per game (1.5). Marron has also assisted four of Daly's six goals.
The Red Storm will be back in action on Friday as St. John's travels to New Britain, Conn., for a game against Central Connecticut State at 7 p.m. at CCSU Soccer Field.
