Women's Soccer Minute - Friars Top Brown 3-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence topped Brown 3-2 in nonconference action on Thursday afternoon. The Friars (4-2-1) were the only league team in action.


Current BIG EAST Rookie of the Week Catherine Zimmerman accounted for the gamewinner as she converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute. It was her fourth goal of the year. The rookie leads the team with nine points on the year. Senior Mary Vercollone scored the first two goals for Providence, as it rallied from a 2-0 deficit.


In the second half, PC held a 10-1 advantage in shots and an 8-3 lead in corners. The Friars  finished the game with a 19-8 edge on shots and a 13-5 margin on corner kicks.


This weekend, there are nine games involving ranked teams, including five top-25 matchups.  No. 12/8 Marquette (3-0-1) takes on No. 18/14 North Carolina on Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. ET, while No. 23/19 Georgetown (6-0-0) squares off against No. rv/- Santa Clara at 7 p.m. ET.


On Sunday, Sept. 9, Marquette is at No. 4/4 Duke, while Georgetown looks to cut down No. 5/5 Stanford. The Hoyas-Cardinal matchup will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 television network.
