The Providence College women's soccer team is prepared for its weekend of competition. The Friars will compete in two road games beginning with a night game against Harvard on Friday, Sept. 13. The Friars and Crimson will kick-off at 7:00 p.m. at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium in Boston, Mass. Providence will wrap up its weekend with an afternoon match-up with Boston University on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1:00 p.m.
The Friars enter the weekend with an overall record of 3-1-1. The Friars have recorded victories over Rhode Island (3-0), New Hampshire (4-1), and Vermont (3-0). The Friars recorded their only loss, thus far, to Dayton (3-0) . Providence's tie came in a 1-1 match against Massachusetts.
Sophomore Kathryn Hiller (Dartmouth, Mass.) leads the Friars' score sheet with nine points on four goals and one assist. Five additional Friars have found the back of the net including, senior Amanda Webster (Saugus, Mass.), junior Allison Walton (Brunswick, Maine), sophomores Lauren Elia (Erie, Pa.) and Catherine Zimmerman (Madison, N.J.) and freshman Rachel Ugolik (Hamden, Conn.).
Providence has out-shot its opponents, 80-47, and holds the advantage in goals, 11-5. In addition, the Friars hold the advantage in corners, 25-19.
Freshman keeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) has started all five games in goal for the Friars and holds a record of 2-1-1. Shea has recorded 20 saves for a .800 save percentage. Sophomore Megan Sweeney (Coral Springs, Fla.) has played 52:08 minutes in net where she recorded one save. Her first win of the season came in the Friars most recent 3-0 win over Vermont.
SCOUTING HARVARD: Harvard enters Friday night's game with an overall record of 0-3. The Crimson has dropped decisions to California (2-1), San Francisco (1-0) and New Hampshire (2-1). Maragret Purce and Lauren Verela lead the team in scoring with two points on one goal apiece. Goalkeeper Bethany Kanten has recorded the most minutes in goal (135) and leads the keeper staff with six saves and a .600 save percentage.
SCOUTING BOSTON UNIVERSITY: Boston University enters its weekend of play with an overall record of 3-2-1. Before hosting Providence on Sunday, the Terriers will host Connecticut on Friday night. The Terriers have recorded wins against Dayton (1-0), Northwestern (2-0) and Akron (3-2). Boston University recorded losses against Boston College (1-0) and Penn State (1-0). The Terriers lone tie came in a 0-0 finish against South Carolina. Madison Clemens leads Boston University with four points on two goals. The Terriers have recorded two shut out wins. Goalkeeper Andrea Green has recorded 425 minutes in goal where she tallied 11 saves and a record of 1-2-1. Teammate Alyssa Parisi has played 135 minutes in net recording three saves and a record of 2-0-0.
