PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Women's soccer began conference play Thursday night with a trio of games, each from the league's American Division. Providence (6-2-1, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) won at St. John's (4-4-1, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) by the score of 2-0 and extended its winning streak to five games, longest in the BIG EAST.

Two-time BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Catherine Zimmerman notched both goals for the Friars. The rookie has scored six times this season, one off the league lead of seven. A complete recap can be found here.

Marquette (4-2-1, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) also won on the road with a 5-1 victory at Pittsburgh (5-5-0, 0-1-0 BIG EAST). The favorite to win the American Division in the league's Preseason poll, Marquette has won seven of its eight BIG EAST openers and is ranked No. 24 in the latest NSCAA poll. A complete game recap can be found here.

Syracuse (4-3-1, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) rallied twice from behind to beat Connecticut (4-3-1, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) by the score of 3-2 in upstate New York. The Orange scored three times in the final 30 minutes of the contest, including the gamewinner with 30-seconds left in regulation as freshman Jackie Firenze notched her second goal of the year.

The Orange head to Providence on Sunday for what should be a very entertaining match. A complete recap of the Syracuse win can be found here.

There are four league games set for Friday, including a nationally televised contest as Louisville (5-1-0) heads to Notre Dame (3-3-1). The 4 p.m. ET match airs on ESPNU. It is a rematch of last year's BIG EAST Championship semifinal, won by Louisville 2-1. The Irish lead the all-time series 8-3, but the Cardinals have won the last two meetings.
