LOUISVILLE, KY. -- The University of Louisville women's soccer team will kick off American Athletic Conference action this weekend in Cardinal Park. The Cardinals will host Memphis on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 p.m. and Rutgers on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1:00 p.m.
Louisville enters the weekend with an overall record of 4-3-1. Last weekend the Cards fell 3-2 in double overtime at Marquette. Senior Charlyn Corral leads the team with seven goals and four assists for 18 points. Corral's goal total ranks second in the conference, while her 18 points are tied for first. Senior Christine Exeter ranks second on the team with five goals and three assists for 13 points. Freshman keeper Paige Brown has started all eight games for the Cardinals, earning a 1.81 goals against average. Brown also has two shutouts and 26 saves on the year.
Memphis enters the weekend with an overall record of 7-2-0. Last weekend the Lady Tigers defeated Florida Gulf Coast (2-1) and FAU (4-0). Memphis is led in scoring by Valerie Sanderson with eight goals and two assists for 18 points. Sanderson was named this week's American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals and an assist against Florida Gulf Coach and FAU. Chirstabel Oduro is second on the team in scoring with six goals and two assists for 14 points. Maryse Bard-Martel leads the Lady Tigers in goal with an 0.88 goals against average. She has three saves and four shutouts on the year.
The match will be the 10th meeting between the two teams, the first since 2011. The Cardinals handed Memphis its only loss of the 2011 season, a 2-0 setback in the NCAA Tournament at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. The Lady Tigers own a 6-2-1 edge in the series, but Louisville is 2-0-1 against the Tigers since 2000.
Rutgers enters the weekend on a four-match unbeaten streak (3-0-1) and has outscored the opposition, 12-3, in that span. The Scarlet Knights are 7-1-1 on the year, with the only loss at Virginia this season. Junior forward Stef Scholz leads the team with six goals this season, with all six goals coming in the last three games. Madison Tiernan also leads the team with five goals and two assists for 12 points. Redshirt senior Jonelle Filigno ranks second on the team in scoring with four goals and three assists for 11 points. Jessica Janosz leads the team in goal with a 1.05 goals against average. She has 23 saves and four shutouts on the year.
The Scarlet Knights are 5-2-1 all-time against Louisville and won the most recent meeting between the two schools, 3-0, last season at Yurcak Field.
Friday night is Louisville women's soccer Alumni Night. All alumni can RSVP to Jing Hughley at 502-852-7547. Sunday is Camper Reunion Day, all participants of the Cardinals summer camp can wear their camp shirt for free admission, parents of campers can get discounted tickets for $2.00. Sunday Louisville will welcome the NAVY to the game. All military and families will receive free admittance with ID to the game.
