MILWAUKEE--After a 3-0 week for the Marquette women's soccer team, sophomore Amanda Engel has been named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, while freshman Liz Bartels earns Rookie of the Week honors, the conference office announced on Monday.
Engel recorded two shutouts and allowed just one goal as the Golden Eagles defeated Milwaukee 5-0, Creighton 2-1and Villanova 1-0 last week. Her goals allowed average was just 0.36 and she saved a crucial penalty kick attempt in the game against the Wildcats, which helped secure the win.
Bartels started the week recording her first collegiate goal and assist in the shutout at Milwaukee. She followed with the game-winning goal in the 2-1 victory at Creighton, in front of her hometown crowd. Bartels scored five points over the week.
This is the first conference honor for both Engel and Bartels this season.
