CHICAGO, Ill. - DePaul's outstanding play in the back line was singled out Monday when senior defender Kylie Nordness was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll.
Nordness was sensational in cutting down the angles of No. 10/8 Georgetown shooters and limiting the effectiveness of Hoyas preseason All-American Daphne Corboz while also playing the entire 110 minutes in a 1-1, double-overtime tie last Thursday in Washington, D.C.
DePaul's defense and talented goalkeeper Alejandria Godinez withstood a 26-shot attack from Georgetown. They held firm despite the Hoyas' 26-5 advantage in shots, 15-5 in shots on goal and 17-2 in corner kicks.
The consistent and steady work of Nordness in the back line on Sunday while playing the entire 90 minutes kept DePaul close in the 1-0 loss at Providence.
Nordness anchors a back line that also features Rachel Pitman, Nina Kodros and Brianna Ryce. In combination with Godinez, the Blue Demon defense has only allowed seven goals in 10 matches for an average of 0.70 goals per game---third-best in the BIG EAST.
This was Nordness' first conference accolade this season. Teammates Elise Wyatt, Ana Greik, Ashleigh Goddard and Gini Yost have all been previously selected for the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
Nordness will continue to tighten up the back line Thursday when DePaul faces BIG EAST opponent Seton Hall in a 3 p.m. match at Wish Field.
