LOUISVILLE, KY. -- Louisville senior Chelsea Hunter was named American Athletic Conference Defender of the Week. Hunter earns the honor for the first time this season. Senior Charlyn Corral was also named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll.
Hunter helped anchor the Cardinal defense, leading Louisville to a 2-0 record in league play this week. The Louisville defense held SMU to just one shot on goal in the first period. Despite a late offensive flurry, Hunter and the defense held SMU to just four shots on goal. Against Houston, the defense held the Cougars without a shot on goal in the first half. The Cardinal defense held Houston to just three shots on goal in the 90 minutes played.
Corral scored two goals to lead the Cardinals to a 2-0 record this week in American Athletic Conference action. In the 12th minute against SMU, Casey Whitfield sent a cross to Corral who buried the shot in the net to put the Cards up 2-1. In the 55th minute, Caroline Kimble played a ball to Christine Exeter on the flank. She sent the ball inside the box to Corral who sent the ball to the top right corner for the fourth goal of the game. Corral leads the conference with 11 goals and 27 points on the season.
Louisville will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 11 as they host USF in Cardinal Park at 7:00 p.m.
