Women's Soccer Minute - Pitt Earns First Conference Win

PITTSBURGH — Redshirt sophomore Alex Charlebois (pictured above) scored two goals in the game's final 13 minutes to give the Pitt (6-10-2, 1-6-2 BIG EAST) a 2-1 victory over Connecticut (7-7-2, 3-4-1 BIG EAST) on Thursday evening at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The victory marked first-year head coach Greg Miller's first career BIG EAST win. The Panthers registered the game-winner in the 87th minute. Pitt's six victories are three times more than it totaled last year. A complete recap can be found here.

 

TOP 25 TIME - A pair of ranked teams square off on Friday as No. 24/23 Notre Dame (10-3-2) heads to No. 11/14 Georgetown (12-1-2). The teams are tied atop the National Division, giving the winner an edge as the team's hit the homestretch of the regular season. League play wraps up the weekend of Oct. 19-20.

 

AS GOOD AS GOLD - Rutgers women's soccer standout Carli Lloyd returns to Yurcak Field on Friday, Oct. 12 for an Olympic gold medal reception at halftime of the women's soccer match vs. Louisville (5:30 p.m.). Lloyd, current forward Jonelle Filigno, and cross country star Julie Culley also will be honored Saturday at the Rutgers-Syracuse football game for their Olympic involvement.

 

BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP RACE - As the regular season hits the homestretch, each team has two or three conference games left to qualify for the league tournament. The top four teams from each division will qualify. The next two teams, regardless of division, will be at-large selections to the 10-team championship.
