CHICAGO – For the fifth week in a row, DePaul was recognized in the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Awards as Amber Paul was named to the Honor Roll o Monday.
Paul picked a perfect time to score her first goal of the season, making a late run in the box and connecting on a timely cross from Elise Wyatt for a 2-1 BIG EAST overtime victory Saturday night at Creighton.
The golden goal in the 100th minute put the finishing touch on the Blue Demons’ third conference win in a row that left them tied for second place with Georgetown.
In previous weeks, Ashleigh Goddard, Gini Yost and Kylie Nordness have been selected to the Honor Roll. Seven days ago, Rachel Pitman was honored as BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week.
After the first week of the season, Wyatt was named to the Honor Roll. The following week, Ana Greik was accorded the same accolade.
Team success often translates into individual recognition, and DePaul stands 9-2-2 on the season with a 3-1-1 mark in the BIG EAST.
That is the program’s best overall record this late in the season. The 2003 team that qualified for the NCAA tournament was 9-3 before taking on two losses and a tie. In 2011, the Blue Demons were 10-4-2 after 16 matches.
DePaul looks to extend its winning streak to four at a 3 p.m. BIG EAST match on Thursday against Butler (9-4-2, 2-3-0) at Wish Field.
