MILWAUKEE--Seniors Taylor Madigan and Emily Jacobson, along with sophomore Amanda Engel have earned top BIG EAST honors for their roles in Marquette's 4-0 shutout over previously unbeaten Georgetown on Sunday, which kept the Golden Eagles in first place in the league standings.
Madigan was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, Jacobson earned the league's Defensive Player of the Week honors, and Engel was named Goalkeeper of the Week for the third consecutive week.
Madigan recorded her fifth goal this season when she scored in the 11th minute of play, which proved to be the game-winner. She also handed out an assist on a goal from classmate Maegan Kelly in the second half, which extended MU's lead over the Hoyas.
Jacobson played an important role defensively for the Golden Eagles as she led MU's backline that allowed just four shots on goal and ended Georgetown's 13-game unbeaten streak. The Hoyas had entered the game averaging 3.3 goals per contest.
Engel earned her third keeper honor in as many weeks as she recorded four saves in MU's victory and helped the Golden Eagles tally their sixth shutout this season. She has posted shutouts in four of the past six contests and has played a critical role during Marquette's seven game winning streak.
MU is 12-3-0 overall and 5-0-0 in league play and is No. 4 in the RPI, compiled by the NCAA. The squad is also back in the top-25 in national polls. The Golden Eagles will play two road trips this week as they travel to Seton Hall on Thursday, Oct. 17 before traveling to DePaul on Sunday, Oct. 20.
