Week 9 Women's Soccer Weekly Release

PROVIDENCE
, R.I. - As the BIG EAST women's soccer season hits the final week of play, West Virginia has two players earn weekly awards. Junior forward Blake Miller was tabbed BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman Frances Silva earns BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors. USF sophomore Kelly Campbell garnered BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week accolades and Syracuse freshman Brittany Anghel was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week.
 
Miller earns BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors after totaling seven points in a 2-0-0 week. The junior had three points, including a goal in a 4-3 overtime win against Villanova on Oct. 15. Miller had two goals in a 3-0 victory against Georgetown on Oct. 17. West Virginia is 16-2-1 all-time when Miller scores a goal.
 
Campbell earns BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors following a pair of shutouts in a 2-0-0 week. The sophomore led the defensive effort in a 1-0 win against Louisville on Oct. 15 as well as a 1-0 win against Cincinnati on Oct. 17. Campbell helped limit Cincinnati's opponents to just six shots on goal over the two games.
 
Anghel earns BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honors after totaling 14 saves in a 1-0-1 week. The freshman made eight saves in a 1-0 victory against Rutgers on Oct. 15. It was Syracuse's first win against the Scarlet Knights since 2001. Anghel also had six saves in a 0-0 double-overtime draw against Seton Hall on Oct. 17. Anghel has six shutouts this season, along with 85 saves.
 
Silva tallied four points in a 2-0-0 week to earn BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors. In a 4-3 overtime win against Villanova on Oct. 15, the freshman had an assist. In a 3-0 win against Georgetown on Oct. 17, Silva had a goal and an assist.

Totaled 11 saves in a 1-0-1 week; had seven saves in a 0-0 double-overtime draw against Rutgers
 
Stephanie Vasos, Marquette, Sr., M/D
Had three points, all assists in a 2-0-0 week; registered two assists in a 4-3 overtime win against Louisville
 
 
QUICK KICKS
TICKETS PUNCHED - DePaul, Georgetown and West Virginia joined Marquette and Notre Dame in earning spots for the BIG EAST Championship. The Irish wrapped up the National Division regular-season crown as well, their sixth straight and 13th overall. In addition the Irish, along with Marquette and WVU will each host a BIG EAST Championship quarterfinal game.
 
 
2010 BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP - This year the league's 10-team women's soccer tournament will culminate at Rutgers' Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J., on Nov. 5 & 7. All three games will be televised on CBS College Sports, while the title game also will be seen on numerous regional sports networks, including SNY (SportsNet New York).
