Women's Soccer Travels to No. 22 Wake Forest and Duke

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—The Pitt women’s soccer team will travel to the state of North Carolina this weekend to play two ACC regular season matches against No. 22 Wake Forest (Thursday, Oct. 24) and Duke (Sunday, Oct. 27). Kickoff for Thursday’s Wake Forest match is at 7 p.m. ET while Sunday’s match at Duke begins at 1 p.m. ET. The Duke match will be televised live by the ACC Network and broadcast on ESPN3 and Root Sports in Pittsburgh.

Pitt (4-11-1, 0-10-0 ACC) has three more regular season games remaining, all on the road. Sophomore Roosa Arvas leads the Panthers in points (seven), while Arvas and junior Alex Charlebois are the team’s scoring leaders (two goals apiece). Injured goalkeeper Nicole D’Agostino, who was leading the ACC in saves and saves per game, is out for the season. Freshman Taylor Francis has started the last three  matches and has registered 15 saves in six games on the year. Six Panthers will be playing in their final three matches of their collegiate careers: D’Agostino, Dana DelleFemine, Caroline Keefer, Katie Lippert, Alyssa Meier and Morgan Sharick.

Pitt will play Wake Forest for the first time in its women’s soccer history. Wake Forest (9-4-2, 4-4-2 ACC) represents Pitt’s seventh nationally ranked opponent on the year. Previously Pitt played five nationally ranked opponents in 1999 and 2001. The No. 22 ranked Demon Deacons enter the match after defeating Clemson 1-0 on Sunday following consecutive losses to No. 1 Virginia (2-0 on Oct. 13) and No. 6 Virginia Tech (2-1 in 2OT on Oct. 17). The Demon Deacons are led by Katie Stengel (20 points/six goals/eight assists), Riley Ridgik (16 points/seven goals/two assists) and Ally Berry (10 points/three goals/four assists).

Duke (6-6-4, 3-4-3 ACC) and Pitt also meet for the first time in women’s soccer. The Blue Devils are 2-0-1 in their last three matches including wins at Maryland (2-1) and at No. 9 Notre Dame (2-1 in 2OT) along with a double overtime 0-0 tie at Clemson. Duke is led by leading scorer Laura Weinberg (12 points/four goals/four assists).

Following this weekend’s matches, the Panthers have just one more game remaining when they travel to Maryland for a Thursday, Oct. 31 match at 7 p.m. in College Park.
