The 10-team women's soccer championship kicks off on Thursday as No. 4 seed Providence hosts No. 5 seed Rutgers at 2 p.m. The Friars (7-8-4) are making their first BIG EAST Championship appearance since 1994, while Rutgers (8-7-3) is making its 12th straight appearance.
Rutgers owns a 14-1-0 all-time record against Providence, dating back to RU's first season of competition in 1984. The Friars victory came in 2007, 1-0 at home. The winner advances to National Division No. 1 seed Louisville and will take on the Cardinals on Oct. 30.
In the night cap, No. 4 seed Seton Hall (8-7-3) hosts No. 5 seed St. John's (9-8-1). The Pirates are making their first appearance in the BIG EAST Championship since 2006. The Red Storm have qualified in five of the last six years. The team's met earlier this season on Oct. 2 with St. John's posting a 2-1 victory. The winner advances to American Division No. 1 seed West Virginia and will take on the Mountaineers on Oct. 30.
