EAST HARTFORD, Conn. - Marquette (15-2-2) topped Notre Dame (13-5-2) by the score of 1-0 in the semifinals of the BIG EAST women's soccer championship on Friday afternoon at Rentschler Field. Marquette senior Ally Miller headed home a perfect loft from junior Maegan Kelly in the 72nd minute to account for the gamewinner. It was Miller's fifth goal of the season.

With the win the Golden Eagles advance to the title game of the BIG EAST Championship for the second time in school history and the first time since 2009. The 2009 BIG EAST Championship also was held in the Nutmeg State.

Marquette held a 13-11 advantage on shots, as well as a 4-2 edge on corner kicks. MU freshman Amanda Engel made a pair of saves in net as the Golden Eagles' defense held Notre Dame to just two shots on goal. Irish freshman Elyse Hight made six saves.

The Fighting Irish were playing Marquette for the sixth time in the BIG EAST Championship and the fourth time in five seasons. Notre Dame holds a 7-5-1 edge in the all-time series with Marquette.

During the game, the BIG EAST also announced a partnership with the Red Cross at this weekend's Women's Soccer Championship. At halftime of both contests, administrators from the league and UConn collected donations on behalf of the American Red Cross to help those families affected by Hurricane Sandy. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Connecticut Chapter of the Red Cross.

With the win, Marquette will face Georgetown or USF on Sunday at noon. Marquette has not faced Georgetown this year. Last month, the Golden Eagles beat the Bulls 4-0 in Milwaukee, Wis., on Oct. 20.

Notre Dame awaits word on the at-large selections of the 2012 NCAA Championship, which will be announced on Monday, Nov. 5 at 4:30 p.m., ET, on www.NCAA.com.
