The Providence College softball team (7-11) defeated Holy Cross, 11-7 at the Stony Brook Invitational on Fri., March 15 in Stony Brook, N.Y.  The Friars now lead the all-time series 34-7-1 against the Crusaders.

The Friars led 7-3 after five innings.  Providence added three runs in the sixth off five hits. Sophomore Sarah Kitterman (Houston, Texas) tallied her fourth homerun of the season, bringing in three of the five runs scored during the inning. Holy Cross managed to bring in four runs in its next set of at bats to cut the lead to three (10-7).  The Friars added one more run in the top of the seventh off a single from Kitterman which brought in sophomore Kelsi Luttrell (Mission Viejo, Calif.). Kitterman went 3-5 on the day with one run and five RBI.   

Sophomore Megan Rollings (Marysville, Wash.) went 3-4 and scored one run and tallied three RBI.  Sophomore Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.)  and freshman Kiara Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) each went 3-5 with one run. 

Freshman Kiara Amos (Malden, Mass.) pitched her 10th complete game of her career and improved to a 4-7 record.  Amos has made an appearance in each of the Friars’ games this season.

On Sat., March 16 the Friars will play games against Manhattan and host Stony Brook. It will be the first match-up between Manhattan and the Friars.

 In its last meeting, Providence defeated Stony Brook, 13-4, in five innings at the FAU Miken Classic Tournament on March 4, 2011.  The Friars currently lead 2-0 in the series.

The Friars will play in two games on Sun., March 17 versus Manhattan and Holy Cross. Following this weekend's tournament, the Friars will host the Yale Bulldogs on Wednesday, March 20 in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. to open up their home schedule.
