Syracuse and Louisville Earn First Softball Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Syracuse sophomore first baseman/catcher Jasmine Watson was selected BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week and Louisville senior Tori Collins was named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week after the first week of action. 
Watson had three home runs, seven hits and six RBI in five games at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz.  She blasted two home runs and drove in three runs in a 6-3 loss to No. 3/4 California, accounting for all of the Orange's offense.  Watson also produced two hits, two RBI and a home run in a 10-2 victory over Cal State Northridge.  The sophomore has a batting average of .438 and a slugging percentage of 1.000.
Collins posted a 3-0 record and led the Cardinals to a 5-0 start and an FIU Combat Classic Title.  In four appearances, she struck out 30 batters in 20.1 innings of work, including a career-high 13 strikeouts in a 2-0 shutout win over UMass.  Collins also scattered 15 hits, holding opponents to a .195 batting average and earning a 1.72 ERA.  In addition to her three games started, she also appeared in 2.1 innings of relief, allowing only one hit to pick up a win against Illinois.
