PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Louisville freshman shortstop/designated player Whitney Arion was selected as the BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week and Syracuse senior Jenna Caira was named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week after the fourth week of action.
Arion led the Cardinals to a 3-0 weekend with wins over Middle Tennessee, Memphis and Boston University. She batted .500 with four hits, two homeruns and five RBI. In addition, Arion scored three of the team's 23 runs on the weekend. While starting all three games at shortstop or designated player, the freshman carried a 1.250 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage. The victories extend Louisville's season-opening win streak to 15 games, the best start to a season in program history.
Caira was 3-0 last week with wins over 24/RV North Carolina, 15/16 Michigan and 11/10 Baylor. She pitched 20 innings and gave up just 13 hits while striking out 17 batters. Three of the five runs Caira allowed were earned, giving her a 1.05 ERA in the three games. In Caira's three starts last week. The Orange outscored their opponents 12-5.

Connell pitched her first career no-hitter against Memphis. It was Louisville's first since April 22, 2006.
Brittany O'Donnell, Notre Dame, Jr., P
O'Donnell pitched 10 innings, giving up only two hits with five strikeouts and four walks in two wins for the Irish.
Jessie Bryant, Providence, Jr., 1B
Bryant batted .556 with a 1.222 slugging percentage and registered five hits, two home runs, two RBI and five runs scored.
Jen Metzger, Seton Hall, So., P
Metzger picked up two wins and a save while not allowing an earned run in 15.2 innings at the Eller Media Stadium Classic.
Sara Nevins, USF, So., P
Nevins produced a 3-1 record, allowing only one run in 22 innings pitched for an ERA of 0.32. She earned a victory over 15/16 Michigan
