BIG EAST Player of the Week
Liz Dike, Creighton, Junior, IF
Dike was 6-of-9 from the plate for a .667 average in a 3-0 week for the Bluejays, which included a mid-week win over Wichita State and a Saturday sweep of league foe Butler. She belted a BIG EAST weekly-best five home runs and 10 RBI, showing a 2.333 slugging percentage while avoiding be struck out. Dike provided the game-winning RBI in all three of Creighton's wins last week, including a solo shot to give the Bluejays' a 2-1 lead in the second inning against the Shockers.
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Becca Changstrom, Creighton, Senior, P
Changstrom earned complete game victories on Wednesday in Creighton's home opener against Wichita State (2-1) and Saturday against Butler (6-0) in the Bluejays' BIG EAST Conference debut. Over the two-game span, she combined for 14 innings pitched and 27 strikeouts, with her 14 Ks against the Bulldogs being the most in league play this season and one shy of the overall season high.
Weekly Honor Roll
Kali Gardner, DePaul, Sophomore, C/OF
Gardner's .714 batting average listed fourth among all BIG EAST players last week, knocking in a pair of home runs and tallying 7 RBI. The Blue Demons swept St. John's with the help of Gardner's day's Game 2 career-high totals in hits (3), RBI (5) and runs scored (2).
Kirsten Verdun, DePaul, Senior, P
Verdun was credited with a pair of wins over St. John's on Saturday, combining for 10 innings pitched and a 0.00 ERA. She struck out 12 and allowed just six hits, none of which went for extra bases.
Elyse Graziano, Georgetown, Senior, OF
Graziano went 7-for-11 with five runs scored, three walks and two stolen bases in the three-game sweep over Villanova to open BIG EAST play. Graziano raised her batting average 61 points from .219 to .280 with a solid weekend at the plate.
Kaitlin Fitzgerald, St. John's, Freshman, 3B
Fitzgerald finished the week batting .600 (6-for-10) with a double and home run for a 1.000 slugging percentage as the Red Storm went 2-2 week with a sweep of Manhattan in its home opener. The freshman led the team with five RBI and picked up two of the team's six hits against DePaul in its league opener.
Danielle DeStaso, Seton Hall, Junior, P/DP
DeStaso led SHU with a .700 average, slugging 1.200 with a .700 on-base percentage. She finished the week with a pair of doubles and a home run, hitting 7-for-10 with seven RBI and four runs scored. At pitcher she earned a five-inning win as the starter in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Providence.
