Notre Dame and Louisville Take Softball Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - For the second time this season, sophomore outfielder Emilee Koerner of Notre Dame was selected BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week and junior Caralisa Connell of Louisville was named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week in the seventh weekly awards of the 2013 campaign. The two also earned Player of the Week awards on February 25.

 

Koerner helped lead the Fighting Irish to a 3-0 week during the first weekend of BIG EAST play. The sophomore went 9-of-10 from the plate with a 2.000 slugging percentage and .909 on-base percentage. In the three-game series against Seton Hall, Koerner scored seven times compared to the Pirates five runs. She hit two doubles, three home runs, five RBI and stole two bases on two attempts in 15 innings. In the third game of the series, Koerner went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBI and two home runs.

 

Connell went 2-0 for the Cardinals with a 1.54 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 22.2 innings pitched. She threw two complete games including a one run (earned), three-hit performance in a 5-1 win against No. 1/1 Oklahoma. During the week, she held opponents to a .171 batting average.

 

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Staci Bonezek, DePaul, So., C

Batted .583 (7-for-12) during a 3-0 week. Hit a game-winning home run in a 5-3 win against Providence on March 23.

Lauren O'Leary, Georgetown, So., P

Went 4-0 on the week with a 1.35 ERA. Allowed five runs (four earned) and struck out 22 batters in 20.2 innings pitched.

Taner Fowler, Louisville, Jr., DP

Hit .455 (5-for-11) with three runs scored, six RBI, three doubles and one home run. Posted a 1.000 slugging percentage and drove in two runs in a 5-1 win against No. 1/1 Oklahoma.

Laura Winter, Notre Dame, Jr., P

Went 2-0 with a 1.75 ERA and struck out 16 batters in eight innings. Hit .556 (5-for-9) with three doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI.

Kourtney Salvarola, USF, Jr., SS

Batted .429 (6-for-14) with a 1.357 slugging percentage in a 3-1 week. Hit three home runs against Rutgers on March 24 including a walk off home run in the ninth inning.
