Connecticut was the lone BIG EAST team on Tuesday night's slate. The Huskies remained in-state when they traveled to Hamden, Conn. to face Quinnipiac. UConn defeated the Bobcats 6-1 for its second consecutive win.
Quinnipiac took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the second but saw that lead disappear four outs later. In the top of the third, sophomore shortstop Emily O'Donnell hit a two-run homer to left center. The Huskies piled on two more runs in the top of the fourth and two in the top of the seventh to pull away 6-1.
Connecticut totaled 13 hits on the day and were led by freshman third baseman Lexi Gifford. Gifford went 3-for-4 from the plate and drove in a run. Senior pitcher Kiki Saveriano earned her ninth win on the season with a complete game effort on the mound. She allowed one unearned run on four hits and struck out six. The senior is 9-3 for the season.
The Huskies get another look at Quinnipiac today as they host the Bobcats at 3:30 p.m. at the UConn Softball Complex. Four other BIG EAST teams are scheduled to compete Wednesday.
