PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior shortstop Kourtney Salvarola of USF was selected BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week and junior Caralisa Connell of Louisville was named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week for the third time in the eighth weekly awards of the 2013 season.
Salvarola led the Bulls to a 3-0 week in a sweep against Villanova. The junior batted .400 (4-for-10) with three runs scored, eight RBI and three home runs. In Game 1 of the three-game series, Salvarola went 2-for-5 from the plate with two home runs and five RBI and also scored twice. She recorded a 1.300 slugging percentage and .538 on-base percentage in three games.
Connell posted a 2-0 record with a 0.48 ERA in three appearances. She allowed one run (earned) in 14.2 innings and struck out 24 batters. The junior held opposing batters to a .064 batting average with only three hits. In the final game of the series, she tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout in a 9-0 win against Syracuse.
