Softball Minute - Providence and Villanova Go 1-1 in Nonconference Action

Providence defeated Harvard 5-3 last night for a nonconference road win. Senior Corinne Clauss threw a season-high eight strikeouts to earn the win in a complete-game effort. 

 
Villanova dropped a road contest to another Ivy League opponent, Princeton. The Wildcats fell 4-1 and have lost two straight. Junior shortstop Ali Lowe led the team offensively. She was 2-for-4 from the plate and scored the team's only run.
 
Outfielder Emilee Koerner of Notre Dame currently leads the nation with a .521 batting average. The sophomore also ranks fifth in the nation with a .969 slugging percentage.
 
USF's pitching staff has enjoyed early success this season and ranks second in the nation with a 1.34 ERA. They are led by senior Lindsey Richardson and junior Sara Nevins. Richardson ranks eighth in the nation with a 1.04 ERA and Nevins' 1.16 ERA ranks 13th in the country.
 
Wednesday is a busy day for BIG EAST teams. There are three league games and four nonconference contests scheduled. Only Providence, Syracuse and Villanova have the day off.
