PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior outfielder Jessie Bryant of Providence was selected BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week and junior Laura Winter of Notre Dame was named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week in the 11th weekly awards of the 2013 season.
Bryant batted .667 (12-for-18) with a 1.278 slugging percentage and .714 on-base percentage during a 5-1 week. The senior drove in eight runs, hit three home runs and two doubles and also scored four times. She hit safely in all six games last week and recorded a RBI in five consecutive games. Bryant went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored in a 7-4 win against Boston College.
Winter went 3-0 with a 0.33 ERA. She threw two complete game shutouts, allowed one run (earned) on eight hits and struck out 35 batters in 21.0 innings pitched. A one-out single in the seventh inning broke up a perfect game during a 7-0 win against Pittsburgh. The junior tied a season high with 14 strikeouts in the game including six straight between the second and third innings. Winter was also 5-for-12 (.417) from the plate with a 1.167 slugging percentage, including three home runs and eight RBI.
