PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seton Hall and USF share this week's BIG EAST softball awards as SHU senior Brittany Schillizzi was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week, while USF freshman Sara Nevins earned BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors. This is the second award for Nevins this year and the third weekly accolade for the Bulls.
Schillizzi guided the Pirates to a series win at Georgetown April 22-23, batting .600 (6-for-10) in the three games. The second baseman recorded a pair of home runs, a double and six RBI to slug at a 1.300 clip. She delivered a three-run homer in the top of the first inning of the series opener April 22 to give Seton Hall an early lead. In the series finale, the senior hit an RBI double in the top of the first inning and belted her second long-ball of the series in the second to break the game open in a 13-0 victory. For the week, Schillizzi tallied four runs scored, one sacrifice hit, five putouts and five assists.
Nevins went 2-0 in the circle with one save as the Bulls swept Connecticut in a three-game series last week. The freshman didn't allow a run, striking out 11 batters. She scattered seven hits over 11.1 innings of work, including a complete-game shutout April 23. She collected her nation-leading eighth save of the season, while setting a program record for saves in a season. Nevins holds a 14-5 record and a 1.71 ERA this season.
