Four Softball Teams Advance to NCAA Regional Finals

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Four BIG EAST softball teams survived to play in the regional finals of NCAA regional action.  USF, Louisville, Notre Dame and Syracuse will all play on Sunday for a spot in the Super Regionals. 

USF pounded out four runs in the second inning to jump in front of FGCU early, and send the Bulls into the Gainesville Regional final with an 8-3 win over the Eagles.  The Bulls have won two games in regional action and only need one more victory to capture the region crown.  USF will face No. 5 seed Florida at 1 p.m. on Sunday with an if-necessary game at 3:30 p.m. ET.

No. 15 seed Louisville dropped its first game against Michigan 2-1, but beat Kentucky in an elimination game in the Louisville regional.  The Cardinals scored three runs in the first inning and held on to beat their in-state rival 3-2. No. 7/9 UofL will face the Wolverines in the regional final at 1:00 p.m. Sunday on ESPN2 with an if-necessary game at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Notre Dame fell to No. 13 seed Arizona 7-2 to open Saturday's Tucson Regional action.  In an elimination game, The Irish battled back from a 3-1 deficit to beat North Dakota State 8-4.  Notre Dame will play the Wildcats in the regional final at 5:30 p.m. with an if-necessary game at 8 p.m. ET.  Both games will be televised live on ESPNU.

The Orange dropped their second round game against No. 3 Arizona State 3-1 before topping Long Beach State 2-1 in eight innings to earn their place in the Tempe Regional Final.  Syracuse will face the Sun Devils at 6 p.m. with an if-necessary game at 8:30 p.m.

DePaul also was in action in the Columbia Regional, dropping two games to No. 9 seed Missouri and Illinois State, 1-0 and 3-0, respectively.  The Blue Demons end their season with a 36-22 record.
