PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Louisville junior Chelsea Bemis has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Softball Player of the Week for games played between April 19 and April 25. The award comes on the heels of her being named the BIG EAST Player of the Week.
Bemis went 11-for-15over five BIG EAST wins for the Cardinals last week with eight runs, 13 RBIs, a double, a triple, a stolen base and six home runs. She ended the week with a .733 batting average, a 2.000 slugging percentage and a .778 on base percentage.
The San Diego, Calif., native hit a home run in every game but one last week including going yard three times in the first game of a doubleheader against St. John's, tying a school record in the process. Bemis posted at least one hit, one run and one RBI in each of her five games last week, in addition to posting three multi-hit games and four multi-RBI games.
The Cardinals will head into the second to last weekend of the regular season with a 32-15 overall record and an 11-5 record in league play. With just six games left in the season, Louisville sits in third place in the BIG EAST, three games behind league leader and 25th-ranked Notre Dame.
