DePaul's Heteniak Named Lowe's Senior CLASS Finalist

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - DePaul senior Becca Heteniak was selected as one of the 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for college softball. This is the fourth year that the award recognizes a softball player for outstanding athletic, academic, leadership and community-service achievements. Voting for prestigious honor is open now at and continues through May 17.

Heteniak continues a Blue Demon tradition as former DPU softball stars Amber Patton, Sandy Vojik and Kate Sheaks preceded her as finalists in the last three years.

The pitcher/designated player was a second-team Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American and two-time BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year. In the classroom she carries a 3.71 grade-point average, was Academic All-District last season and will be a four-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection.

The senior has helped raise $7,000 annually in a breast-cancer walk, has made lunches for the homeless, volunteered at a Halloween party to raise money for children's AIDS research and has worked on projects with inner-city children among other community-service projects.

The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced at the Women's College World Series in June.
