McHugh Leads Irish To Perfect Weekend, Tournament Title;
Named Volleyball Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Andrea McHugh of Notre Dame led the Irish to a 3-0 weekend and the tournament title at the Shamrock Invitational to earn the season's first BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week award. Pittsburgh's Lindsey Zitzke was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for her efforts at the Pitt Panther Invitational, helping the Panthers start the season 4-0.
McHugh was a standout for Notre Dame, leading the team with 58 kills in three tournament matches. The 2010 BIG EAST Freshman of the year posted a career-best 25 kills to go along with 13 digs in a 3-1 victory against Idaho on Aug. 27. McHugh averaged 4.83 kills and 3.92 digs per set while recording double-digit kills in all three weekend matches. She also earned MVP honors at the Shamrock Invitational.
Zitzke earns BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors averaging 10.54 assists per set in her first four collegiate matches, leading the Panthers to three straight-set wins in four matches at the Pitt Panther Invitational. Zitzke recorded 46 assists against Rhode Island on Aug. 27. She averaged 2.23 digs per set and 1.00 service aces per set.
