Arslanbekova Named BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week; Leads Louisville to Cardinal Crowne Plaza Classic Title

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Lola Arslanbekova of Louisville led the Cardinals to a 3-0 weekend and the tournament title at the Cardinal Crowne Plaza Classic. For her efforts she was named BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week. Marquette's Chelsea Heier was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for her accomplishments at the Bluejay Invitational, as she helped the Golden Eagles to a 2-1 record.
 
Arslanbekova, the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year, was dominant for Louisville, leading the team with 63 kills in three tournament matches. She posted a career-high 26 kills against Wichita State on Sept. 3. en route to the MVP honors at the Cardinal Crowne Plaza Classic. Arslanbekova averaged 6.30 kills and 1.60 digs per set while recording 18 or more kills in all three weekend matches. She also reached her 1,000th career kill this week, the quickest of any Louisville player to reach 1,000 in school history.
 
Heier earns BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors averaging 12.86 assists per set in four matches last week. She notched a personal best of 56 assists in a four-set match against Northern Illinois on Sept. 3. Heier also posted 1.64 digs per set.
