Cincinnati and Villanova Take Home Week Two Volleyball Honors

, R.I. - Cincinnati and Villanova claimed the year's second BIG EAST volleyball weekly awards. Cincinnati senior Missy Harpenau earned BIG EAST Player of the Week, while Villanova freshman Alyssa Anderson was named Freshman of the Week
Harpenau earns BIG EAST Player of the Week honors after helping the Bearcats to a 4-0 record including three wins to capture the title at the Bearcats Invitational. The junior was named MVP of the tournament, leading the team with a .394 hitting percentage. Harpenau had a pair of 15-kill matches against both Kent State (15 kills, 9 digs) Sept. 3 and James Madison (15 kills, 12 digs) Sept. 4. She averaged 3.75 kills and 2.75 digs per set for the week.
Anderson earns BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors after averaging 10.64 assists in four matches for the Wildcats, helping the team to a 3-1 record. The freshman dished out a career-high 55 assists against Penn to go along with 17 digs. Anderson also had two other 30+ assists performances, recording 32 assists in a win over La Salle Sept. 5, and 30 assists in a win over Temple Sept. 4. She currently ranks sixth in the conference with a 9.71 assists-per-set average, tops for all BIG EAST freshmen.
Cincinnati, St. John's and Syracuse all put together undefeated weeks, with Syracuse registering a perfect 7-0 record. The 7-0 mark is the best start for the Orange since 2004 when they began the year 9-0. St. John's is off to it's best start since 2006 when the team won 29 of its first 30 contests.
