Notre Dame's Alugbue Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Toni Alugbue of Notre Dame earns BIG EAST volleyball Player of the Week honors for her stellar play in two matches last week, which included a 3-2 win over No. 10 Louisville. Amanda Hansen of Seton Hall was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week as the Pirates improved to 13-1 and 2-0 in the league.

 

Alugbue averaged 4.40 kills, 2.90 digs and 0.90 blocks per set and led the team in come-from-behind wins over Cincinnati (3-2) and Louisville. The sophomore hit .426 with a career-high 26 kills in the win over the Bearcats. She also added 11 digs and seven total blocks. Against the Cardinals, Alugbue registered another double-double with 18 kills and 18 digs.

 

Hansen was brilliant in two matches for the Pirates. She led the team in hitting percentage during the week and registered just two attack errors. The freshman registered a .412 hitting percentage with seven kills in the win over Pittsburgh and a notched a career-high 12 kills with a .500 hitting percentage against USF. Seton Hall has won 10-straight matches.

 

Weekly Honor Roll:

Emily MacIntyre, Cincinnati, Jr., DS

Averaged 6.89 digs per set in two matches. Tallied 34 digs against Notre Dame and 28 digs in a win over DePaul.

Mattison Quayle, Connecticut, Sr., OH

Notched two double-doubles in a 2-0 week. Averaged 3.25 kills and 3.62 digs per set.

Elizabeth Koberstein, Marquette, Jr., S

Dished out 39 assists in just three sets to help Marquette in a win over Syracuse.

Alexa Campbell, Pittsburgh, Sr., OH

Registered a double-double in all three matches. Averaged 3.75 kills and 2.83 digs per set.  

Shelbey Manthorpe, Seton Hall, So., S

Averaged 2.50 kills, 8.50 assists, 2.88 digs and 0.75 blocks per set in two wins last week, including a triple-double against Pittsburgh with 34 assists, 12 kills and 16 digs.
